Recently we had the team from Jewellery UK in the studio for a Jewellery lifestyle photography shoot. Our shoots for this particular brand are always jam packed to make the best use of their time. We shoot a range of lifestyle photography with models to use across their social media, as well as printed catalogues which goes out to suppliers.
Planning A Jewellery Lifestyle Shoot:
Prior to the shoot we put a cast out for models and hand models with any specific requirements the client may have. Then the process is to pass on a contact sheet for the client to pick which model they think best suits their brand. With jewellery one thing to bear in mind is the sizes, especially for rings! Models are also required to book them selves in for a manicure before hand to ensure hands are clean and neat ready to be photographed up close.
On the day:
Because jewellery is usually quite small, we use the best lenses and shoot at a shallow depth of field. This keeps the main focus on the piece of jewellery itself, whilst slightly blurring the background. We shoot to a planned shot list that the client has created to make sure they get all the shots they need for their online and physical catalogue. As we go the photographer can also name each file to a corresponding product SKU to keep things organised and so they can be ticked off as we go.
Behind the scenes:
Using a low tech gimbal we often like to capture a few behind the scene shots of a shoot. Something which we are more than happy to provide to the client to use on their own social media. While we post on our own Instagram to boost awareness of the studio as well as the brand we are working with.
